Challenge

Reimagine and commercialise the sandwich for a sustainable Food-To-Go future.

Solution

 HUMBLE is a 100% recyclable sandwich pack and a change in sandwich carrier format. HUMBLE directly influences the supply chain, reducing the production of bread waste. HUMBLE moves sandwich packaging from mostly non-recyclable (within the UK recycling infrastructure) to recyclable during paper conversion and at its end state (post consumption). HUMBLE significantly reduces the risk of cross contamination when the discarded pack enters the recycling chain whilst reducing food waste.

On testing, the team also found that utilising a longer loaf with reduced cross section dimensions (approximately twice the length of the industry standard uncut carrier format) delivered in the region of a 50% reduction in waste pre-production.
